Before taking a well-deserved summer vacation, the partners in project 4 Creativities (2019-1-BG01-KA201-062354) completed the first version of the second intellectual product of the project: Mathematical creativity.
The Mathematical Creativity module includes a variety of activities aimed at developing and improving students' motivation, logical thinking and mathematical skills through innovative approaches.
The very nature of mathematics provides a suitable platform for developing creativity. Mathematical creativity could be defined as the process that results in unusual and insightful solutions to a given problem, irrespective of its level of complexity. Mathematical creativity is observed when one generates a non-standard solution for a problem which may not be solved so easily using the conventional methods.
The results of the project are intended to be used by teachers working with students aged 10 to 12, stimulating their motivation and creativity.
The activities are diverse, fun and most of all easy to plan and implement! A complete list and links to them are given below:
1. "The war of numbers" - This activity is a mathematical version of the well-known card game called "War"!
2. "In the zoo" - The game stimulates the logical thinking of students.
3. "Hourglasses and measuring bowls" - The activity is aimed at developing students' logical thinking, combined with their basic mathematical knowledge.
4. "Mathematical hopscotch" - This is a great game (method) for solving simple and complex math problems, as well as performing some physical activities.
5. "Battleship" - This activity is a mathematical version of the well-known game Battleship.
6. "Mathematical escape room" - The activity aims to inspire the creation of a mathematical escape room similar to the rooms which have gained great popularity in recent years.
7. “Fun math” - The given activity is a quick and simple way to help students see the connectivity between different mathematical operations and their potential to enjoy them.
8. „Mathematics Gymkhana“ - A mathematical Gymkhana is a game of mathematical problems and tests in which groups of students carry out a series of activities to reach the final point. The aim is to solve all the tests correctly and in the shortest possible time.
9. „A Par-fect Score“ - This activity will reinforce the topic of integers in a fun exercise that links mathematics to a real life activity, golf.
10. „Hammering numbers“ - This two-part activity consists of learning how to deal with whole numbers, how to put them in order and how to do calculations with them, knowing the rule of signs.
